Working with immigrant women in their daily relationship with institutions and employers means dealing with frequent situations of xenophobia, racism, violation of human rights, sexual harassment, domestic violence and female genital mutilation, with the Associacao Solidariedade Imigrante assuming a role of mediation and providing support for immigrant women to be able to react and denounce these situations. In addition to this more casuistic intervention, whose results, when positive, strongly influence other women to act in the face of this type of situations, we propose to:
- Individualized assistance to immigrant women, providing them with the necessary knowledge about the institutions, forms of claim in the Portuguese legal and institutional framework, facilitating access to public services and denouncing, to the competent authorities, situations of violation of these same rights, as well as situations of racism and discrimination.
- Raise awareness and provide information to immigrant women about their rights and duties, supporting them in the search adjusted to their specific situation.
- Promote the empowerment of women, encouraging them to assert their rights and exercise their citizenship and active participation in collective actions and other activities of the association, as volunteers.
